Why Rain Barrels?
Using a rain barrel to collect water from your gutter system on your home is a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly way to water your garden or plants.  The rain barrels available from OutdoorCharm.com come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Depending on where you are placing the barrel we have round to square designs from 35 gallons to 75 gallons.  We also have some two in one designs to choose from that are a Rain Barrel, with a planter on the top of the unit.

Spring is just Around the Corner

The changing of seasons is always a greatly looked forward to event in my life. Different seasons means different responsibilities and different pleasures.  In the winter,  our main priority is staying warm, keeping the walks and driveway clean of snow and ice. The winter also brings comfort foods to warm our bodies. Ah, there is nothing quite as warming as coming in from the cold and setting down to  a warm bowl of your favorite soup, Now is that time of year when I am ready to leave winter behind and start thinking of spring.
Spring is the time of every thing starting a new cycle, the flowers start popping up, the trees and bushes budding and I start all my preparation of things I need to do for my time outdoors.
Getting the lawn mower tuned and ready for its weekly duty of mowing the yard, cleaning the grill and fire pit. I can hardly wait to taste those steaks and burgers cooked over an open fire.
Then there is all the outdoor seating and tables. The rocking chairs on the porch and patio set on the deck, for spending those days or evenings relaxing with Mother nature. For me there is nothing I enjoy more than that first outing in the garden, filling the planters with flowers, and the raised bed boxes with vegetables and watching them grow, thinking of the first red tomato I will take a bite of. The only thing left to do is bring out the bird waterer and filling it with clean water for my feathered friends, as they will be arriving back from their winter stay.
Once I have completed my duties it is just a matter of going out to my yard or garden and enjoying. Even though spring is not quite here, just my thoughts of preparing for it excite me.
Yes I love spring and all it brings.

Lets Go on a Picnic

For me there is nothing quit as enjoyable as an outdoor picnic. To bring together friends or family around a picnic table brings laughter and joy. All you have to do is start up the grill or fire pit in your backyard and you have the beginning of a picnic, hot dogs or burgers ready for the fire.
If you have a bigger gathering in mind than what your backyard can handle. The family reunion, someone home from college or the service, there is always the park. The park is big enough for all types of sports or recreation, some even have lakes for fishing or swimming. Even though there may be many things to keep you busy, the main attraction is always a plate full of food and a picnic table, where you can gather with those you have not seen for a while and discuss your busy lives.
Yes I remember many gatherings of friends and family around a picnic table, and they are all great memories.

Why I Love my Rocking Chair

For me there is nothing quite as soothing for my mind and body as rocking in my rocking chair. The back and forth movement is calming for my soul.  Setting outside on the patio in my rocker, listening to the birds and taking in all I can of mother nature, takes away all my thoughts of the day at work. The great thing about my rocking chair is I can take it inside in the winter and utilize all the positive effects.
Another great advantage to owning a rocking chair is the effect it has on children. We all know what happens to a fussing child after a few back and forth movements of the rocker, silence and calm.
The invention of the first rocking chair many say goes to Benjamin Franklin, although historians actually trace the rocking chair's origins to North America during the early 18th century (when Franklin was a child). These were just regular table chairs with rockers attached to the bottom, and used outside in the yard and garden. Michael Thonet a German craftsman, created the first bentwood rocking chair in 1860. During the 1920s, however, folding rocking chairs became more popular in the US and in Europe. They were handy for outdoor activities and travel purposes.
Besides the Franklin rocker another famous rocking chair is the Kennedy rocker.  President Kennedy was prescribed use of a rocking chair by his physician in 1955 because the President suffered from lingering back problems. The president so enjoyed his rocker he brought it on Air Force One when he traveled around the country and the world. He bought additional rockers for Camp David and the Kennedy estates, and gave them as gifts to friends and heads of state. The Kennedy Rocking Chair is shaped, stem-bent and assembled while green according to the original design.
Today there is a variety of material and designs used in making rocking chairs, from hardwood to wicker, they can be used indoor or outdoor. Check out the variety of rocking chairs at : http://www.outdoorcharm.com/catalog/item/8633000/9551299.htm
